Is the party more important to us than the prayer?
In our verses for today, we see the music, food, and wine readied for the feast. No doubt the food, instruments of music, and wine were given a good deal of thought. Songs were practiced. Instruments tuned. The finest and best delicacies of food have been prepared.
Yet, those soon to be in the midst of celebration have no regard for the Lord, nor thought for all He does.
Before we think it is the others, then and now, who were and are the only ones at fault, let us look at ourselves.
How many times have we been concerned about how our “performance” is viewed and accepted?
Were we more concerned with how we looked as we sang that solo at church, than the praise the words brought to God?
Instead, we should simply offer up our love to God in humility and thankfulness for all He has done and is doing and will do.
Isaiah 5:12 NKJV The harp and the strings,
The tambourine and flute,
And wine are in their feasts;
But they do not regard the work of the Lord,
Nor consider the operation of His hands.
Indeed, let us consider all that His Hands continue to do.
He is ever faithful and ever good.
Yet, we humans often reverse everything. We call evil good and good evil.
It seems the daily news makes that abundantly clear to us today.
Sin, however, was present millennium ago too.
Our next verse says that very thing.
Isaiah 5:20-21 NKJV
20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
How many times in our society do we see sin called modern thinking. What is evil is called accepted and righteous. Instead, it is called filthy and abominable by God.
Look around at all that is sin and yet is taught to our young children as normal and accepted. May God forgive us. May He help us to stand in true righteousness for Him and His commandments.
21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
And prudent in their own sight!
Far too often, we see things as the world see them. We believe we are wise and call our own limited and sinful thinking as right in our own eyes.
We believe that all we do is acceptable, when it is filled with sin.
Let us ask God to let us see things as He see them, and not through the lens of our sinful society.
May we stand as strong men and women and yes, as strong children too, of God.
May we live for Him, righteously, and in purity, and in service to our loving and ever holy God.
