When God’s Soul Leaves Us

These verses were spoken long ago by God through Jeremiah.

These were given to Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, yet they speak warnings to all of us today as well.

Be instructed, O Jerusalem,
Lest My soul depart from you;
Lest I make you desolate,
A land not inhabited.” Jeremiah 6:8 NKJV

How sad that the deeds of God’s chosen people, not obeying God, and worshiping false gods, could bring things to the point where our true Lord God would say that His Soul might depart from them.

Can you imagine anything worse than the departure of God from you after you had a close fellowship with Him?

You talked with Him and He with you, you confided, you enjoyed His closeness, yet now you disobey, and He is departing from you. How many today could admit to the same thing? Have YOU chosen the things of this world and turned from God so many times that His Soul is now departing from YOU?

To whom shall I speak and give warning,
That they may hear?
Indeed their ear is uncircumcised,
And they cannot give heed.
Behold, the word of the Lord is a reproach to them;
They have no delight in it. Jeremiah 6:10 NKJV

They have been warned, yet they do not listen or obey.

Things the Lord taught are abhorrent to them. They no longer have joy in His Presence, His Word, or His fellowship. Oh, how we grasp at the trash of this world, and throw away things of Eternal Value.

And their houses shall be turned over to others,
Fields and wives together;
For I will stretch out My hand
Against the inhabitants of the land,” says the Lord. Jeremiah 6:12 NKJV

15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination?

No! They were not at all ashamed;
Nor did they know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
At the time I punish them,
They shall be cast down,” says the Lord.

16 Thus says the Lord:

“Stand in the ways and see,
And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,
And walk in it;
Then you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’Jeremiah 6:15-16 NKJV

It does, in fact, seem as though few are embarrassed by the outrages of society. No one blushes or is ashamed by their behavior.

Perhaps, they disbelieve entirely that a day of punishment is coming.

It is so much more joyful and purposeful, so much more righteous and happy to walk in the ways that God established long ago.

Walking those old paths with God in His good way, will bring rest in a troubled world. Yet, no one wants to walk in His paths and obey God’s way.

17 Also, I set watchmen over you, saying,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But they said, ‘We will not listen.’
18 Therefore hear, you nations,
And know, O congregation, what is among them.
19 Hear, O earth!
Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people—
The fruit of their thoughts,
Because they have not heeded My words
Nor My law, but rejected it.  Jeremiah 6:17-19 NKJV

Some warn. You have a Bible to read, you have churches that remain that are following God’s Word, yet so many pay no attention. Watchmen are over us, telling us to listen to the warning, yet…

the world at large doesn’t listen.

There is a group among us, even now, who follow God. Churches who reject what is not in the Word, and follow what is, remain. It seems we read more and more of young men who are seeking the conservative paths of God and wanting traditional Judeo-Christian values. I applaud these young men, and the women they will marry, who will do the same.

I applaud those who want families and plan to raise them in the teachings of the Lord.

Punishment is coming to those who do not follow Jesus and those who do not heed His Words. Those who turn their backs on the words of God and who reject His law, will regret the punishment to come.

It is not too late to choose the way of God.

Someday, however, it will be too late.

We don’t know the day or hour when Christ will return.

We only know that God never, never lies, and He is always trustworthy.

He has not allowed His Soul to leave us yet.

COME TO HIM WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME!!!

May you, like Jeremiah, in the 12th Chapter, verse 3a, also be able to say,

“But You, O Lord,

know me;

You have seen me,

And You have tested my

heart toward You… “

Amen, Lord Jesus.
