The Night Of Our Soul

With my soul I have desired You in the night,
Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early;
For when Your judgments are in the earth,
The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. Isaiah 26:9 NKJV

Have you ever had a night of your soul?

Of course, you have, and so have I. Perhaps it is not even physically in the night, or maybe it is. You toss and turn, fearful of tomorrow, trying to make decisions.

Yes, we have all been there.

In the midst of the despair and uncertainty, you realize that your faith in God, your walk with God, is lacking.

Perhaps, it is non-existent.

Then, you remember all the evidence of God in the Bible.

You think of all the evidence of God in your own life.

You realize that you both need and desire God.

The second line of our verse states that your spirit within seeks God. In those early hours of the morning, you turn to Him.

Think how much better your life could have been if you had turned to Him earlier in your life, in the morning of your youth.

Those decisions that were made selfishly and impacted your life negatively could have been avoided.

Think of that child or young teen who turns to God “early” and, years later, realizes all the pitfalls that were avoided by following God instead of the world.

Lastly, if we all follow the judgments and commands of the Lord, the people of this world will learn righteousness.

Wouldn’t this be glorious?

As I write this, multiple countries are at war. Death and destruction are widespread. The night of the soul is the state of many.

Even in areas where the individual nation is not at war, internal strife is present.

People fight in the streets.

Riots are often seen.

We oppose one another.

If only we put God’s law into practice in our own lives and treated one another as we want to be treated. (See Matthew 7:12.)

Kindness is such a two-way road to joy.

Put love out there, and often it will return to bless us.

The same, however, is true of hatred, anger, and unkind words. When they are put out into this world, they, too, will return in one way or another to wound our souls and bodies.

May our souls desire and seek and find God.

And may we never leave Him again.
