32 “Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 33 You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.  Deuteronomy 5:32-33  NKJV

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, Colossians 2:6 NKJV

THE JOURNEY

You hold your tiny hand up

to reach for mine.

We walk along together

for a while.

You trust me to walk along with you.

You give me your hand,

your steps, your years, your life.

I take your hand.

The steps, the years, the life,

I leave to God.

We’ll walk on a way together,

you and me.

You won’t always walk along with me.

The year, the day, the moment

will come when you’ll let go of my hand

—and walk on alone.

I’ll stay behind and watch you go.

I’ll hold my pain away from your backward glance,

so you won’t see–

and let you view only my pride – my love–

for they are great.

I’ll remember always…

that baby hand …and those steps,

…. those years we shared

while we had them….

and thank God for giving them to us.

Go on then alone,

as it is fitting.

And may God walk always with you  —

—- my son.
