The Gift

26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  Matthew 6:26 NKJV

The storm had been fierce.

While it wasn’t accompanied by the expected power outages in our area, it left us all frozen in our icy enclaves.

The surrounding area was nothing but solid ice as far as we could see.

One tiny bird sat outside looking for food that the snow and ice hadn’t covered.

He gazed in the sliding glass door that separated us by only an inch or two.

We went to our loaf of bread and I broke the heel into small pieces, opened the door, and scattered it.

I sat back to watch.

To my amazement, it was not the small chickadee that returned, but a seagull.

He too looked in at me. He took a piece of bread and flew away, to return a time or two for more. He then flew high and away. I settled back to my work with an eye out through the gloomy, overcast, icy day. The rigors of the storm’s aftermath depressed the already gloomy atmosphere.

Suddenly, the sun broke through the gloom, forcefully and quite unexpectedly igniting the fields of ice with brillient light.

The clouds parted enough that I saw a patch of bright blue sky for the first time in weeks.

And then, a true and glorious gift from God appeared.

Against the sky and sunshine flew a flock of 10 or 12 seagulls led by our single gull. They swooped down and ate up the last of the scattered bits of bread and flew away against the brightness of new hope.

God not only brought us through the dark storm, He blessed us with an explosion of joy from His storehouse of love.

My mighty God brought us a miracle of hope with rays of sun against the startling white majesty of the wings of a flock of gulls heading heavenward.

Perhaps, you too have gone through a storm recently, physically or emotionally.

Maybe, the landscape of your personal life is dark right now.

It is time to look for His blessing in your life right now, because there are many.

These hidden blessings will remind you to also reach upward to God.

It took a flock of seagulls to remind me.
