Silence
The silence is profound
reaching and filling
the corners of my morning’s universe.
I listen to the vast, vast nothingness,
while dwelling in the depth
of silence’s comfort.
I cherish God’s closeness here.
He is with me in this.
I realize He is also here
when the silence is broken.
An owl calls from far
within the dark woods.
One single call
and suddenly,
that perfect hush is over,
except in my soul’s recall.
Ah, but gift beyond comprehension,
God’s Presence
remains,
and comforts me
in an unending embrace.
His silent Peace
enters my heart
to stay.

“Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10a KJV
“For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.” Isaiah 30:15 KJV
Choosing to be still, to listen to God and obey Him is the vital lesson in these passages. Too often we get caught up in the noise of the day and strive for our way over His. Life demands much but we should not allow it to take all of our attention. Instead, we should be “looking onto Jesus.” (Hebrews 12:2 KJV)
May we be among those who listen to His still, small Voice and heed Him in all things.
May we live in peace within the quietness of soul that He alone grants.
