Let your light shine before men! What wonderful advice from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He wants us to stand out not because of our good looks or some talent we have, but because of our relationship with Him.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:17 NKJV
The good works that God gave us to do will make us stand out. When people see us as Christians doing what God has told us we should do they will glorify him.
As we serve God, men will notice and wonder why we are doing good to others. There are many ways we can serve God and helping our fellow man is one of them. It can be anything we do for others as long as that is what the Holy Spirit guides us to do.
Loving our fellow man is one way that we show God’s love. It can be feeding them, praying for them, or practicing what James calls “true religion,” caring for widows and the fatherless.
You can shine before men! We live in a world where most are seeking what they think is best for them. Self seems to be the center of their world.
Serving self without regard for others is what leads us into the sins of the world. The world we live in tells us that we are to satisfy ourselves first and consider others second. Divorce, broken homes, and children torn apart all come from our failure to recognize sin.
Turning from the sin of the flesh allows us to be witnesses to what God wants us to accomplish in this world, unity and love and a peace that passes all understanding. This can be ours if we choose to let our light shine before the world.
