Listen to how Jesus taught His Disciples to Pray and His sample prayer is just as important today as back then.
So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.” Luke 11:2-4 NKJV
Praying Jesus’ Prayer is not what Jesus intended when to taught the Disciples to pray. Daily prayer is important in our walk with the Lord and it needs to be from the heart.
We need to think about what we pray for so that the focus changes from us to God. It is His will that we are trying to align ourselves with in prayer.
Often our prayers seem to be all about us. We often fail to keep our minds focused on God. It should not be prayers about what we want, but about what God wants.
Notice that Jesus praises God from the beginning and asks that His will be done. God is not our Santa Clause He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Our first concern should be His will not ours.
After His will comes a time for us to ask for our needs. God knows what we need before we ask and wants to supply them.
Before God meets our physical needs we ask for forgiveness of our sins. You and I being right with God is more important than anything we can ask for.
Praying Jesus’ prayer commits us to forgive the debts of others. Forgiving others also gives us confidence as we approach the throne of God.
