35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Luke 6:35 NKJV

Powerful love is a verb. Loving others is not always easy. Pure love is an action word.

LOVE HAS MUSCLES

Love enemies. Do good. Lend without expecting return. God is kind to the grateful and the ungrateful and we should do the same. Love, in other words, is a verb. It works hard. Love has muscles. And no one has that much strength alone.

Thus, God gives us this simple formula that is impossibly hard to do without God’s Help.

GOD’S HELP

God must, in fact, put His Holy Spirit into us before we have power to follow through on this command. Without God’s power, we will fail at this each time.

DO YOU RUN OUT OF LOVE?

Like a car without gas, we cannot operate in love without God.

Oh, we might putter along fueled by selfish love for a bit but quickly stop dead in our tracks as so-called love dies.

LOVE THOSE WHO HATE US

This verse tells us to love our enemies. We are to love those who perhaps hate us and want to kill us. To love such people takes a supernatural love.

CHRIST’S EXAMPLE

Such love was exhibited by Christ on the cross, praying for his crucifiers.

He did good to those who persecuted him.

Likewise, we are to do good to those who hurt us.

LEND WITH A GIVING HEART

Jesus tells us to lend our things out. Give out our needed, valued, hard-earned possessions without expectation of their return. That is also love.

It means we remove ourselves from the equation. We now are to cling only to meeting another’s needs, even when it costs us our comfort.

GOD LOVES US THIS WAY

God loves us on these same terms.

The Father sent His Son to die for us, though we are the ones deserving death.

OUR CROSS

Jesus tells us it will cost us to be His followers. He points to the cross we must each carry.

He is pointing you to yours.

You must pick it up in love.
