Did you have a hideaway or hiding place when you were a kid?
114 You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in Your word. Psalms 119:114 NKJV
HIDEAWAY
Do you still have a cozy place to go to for your favorite snack or to curl up with a good book?
How does such a hiding place make you feel?
Most will say it is restful and gives a safe, secure feeling.
FLEETING JOY
Sadly, they will also say that such a feeling is often fleeting.
Outside troubles join us there and stress levels rise there also.
GOD ALONE
No refuge is safer than God Himself as our hiding place. The Bible tells us in this verse that there is a refuge in God where we are always safe.
His Word promises that He never will leave us nor forsake us in Hebrews 13:5b.
We have the promise in Scripture that He is our Shield.
History tells us of the protection from all sorts of harm that strong shields have given warriors.
God Himself is that Shield of Protection to us. The words of the psalmist assure that our hope lies securely forever in His Word. We are there protected in God, kept safe by our Refuge, Shield, and Hiding Place.
