God keeps His promises of special blessings when we obey.
26 and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” Exodus 15:26 NKJV
OBEY
Obey is an important, often overlooked, word.
In today’s verse the act of obeying means to HEED God’s voice, to DO what is right in His sight, to LISTEN to His commandments, and to KEEP all of His statutes.
THE PROMISE
Then, after the obedience has been faithfully executed, God says that He will put none of the diseases that He brought to the Egyptians on the Israelites. God will be their Healer.
THE LOSS
However, we see the Israelites time and time again turn from obeying God and sinning. The promised blessings are conditional here and clearly disregarded. Thus, the promise was left unclaimed.
TAKE ACTION
Notice that God gives a very clear breakdown here. Heed, do, listen, keep. All verbs.
Children learn to call them Action Words.
Often we read these words of admonition that require action in the Bible and turn the page, seldom applying them to our list of things to do for that day and every day.
OUR HEALER
God’s promise to heal us and keep us in His protection immediately follows our instructions to obey. God says to keep His commands and statutes and do what is right in His sight.
Scripture reinforces throughout that blessings follow obedience and punishments are consequences of disobedience.
THE CHOICE
However, the choice is yours. We have been given free will.
The Israelites then, and we as a culture today here in America, have often chosen to disobey God.
May we be forgiven our foolish choices and our sins and obey the God Who promises to be with us and to heal us.
