God Sees, God Knows
“Your ways and your doings
Have procured these things for you.
This is your wickedness,
Because it is bitter,
Because it reaches to your heart.” Jeremiah 4:18 NKJV
In our daily Bible reading yesterday, my husband, Bruce, and I stopped and looked at each other.
“Wow!” I said, “That’s out of today’s headlines; huh? Bruce agreed.
“For My people are foolish,
They have not known Me.
They are silly children,
And they have no understanding.
They are wise to do evil,
But to do good they have no knowledge.” Jeremiah 4:22 NKJV
This is your wickedness…bitter..says our verse.
People cling to the ideas of their own selfish hearts.
People are foolish, not knowing God.
They are indeed silly children with no understanding.
Yes, sadly, that is the state of our nation, and the state of the world.
The human race, thinking we are wise, instead is only constantly sinning. We think highly of our own ideas, which are as nothing.
Grievously, we turned away from the true God of the Universe.
The sad thing is that we are no longer children, but adults still in rebellion against our Father God.
The only thing that we are “good” at is to do evil. We have perfected the art of sinning. The Bible says, “They are wise to do evil.”
We know, quite well, how to commit sin.
In fact, we have perfected the art of sinning.
We see a lot going on around us of evil’s growth. There seems to be more and more understanding of how to lie, cheat, and steal.
However…God sees. God knows.
Have you heard people, often politicians, saying they “misspoke.”
Misspoke seems to be the new way of saying they lied, but don’t want to admit that it was, in fact, untrue and thus, a lie.
Let’s be honest.
It was a lie.
God sees. God knows.
It would be refreshing if someone just said, “Forgive me. I lied.”
If one is honest, one confesses.
How do you ask for forgiveness, either from God or man? Do you cloke your apology with excuses and feeble mention of misspeaking?
I had 6 children.
I would sometimes call my son Jim by his brother John’s name, or call my son Luke by his brother Peter’s name. Once, I even called one of my daughters by the name of the cat!
That was truly misspeaking!
However, if one lies, it is a lie and nothing else. A lie should be acknowledged as such and forgiveness should be sought.
Does all this weary you in your honest walk and pure efforts?
Read our closing passage:
But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. 2 Thessalonians 3:13 NKJV
We are here told to keep on doing right. There is comfort in the fact that God Himself is encouraging us to continue doing good.
He tells us to keep on keeping on.
God doesn’t look away from our plight. He understands.
Rejoice in your attempts in doing good. Rejoice in your truthfulness and in your Christian walk.
Remember, always, this caution and comfort:
God sees.
God knows.
