“Fragments”, written by Carol Fleming is a wonderful presentation of how little bits of our memories play such an essential part in our daily life. Each one is special in making us what we are. So often, we forget that our past is a part of our present. We are molded and driven by the events of our life.
God uses those events to change us. Whatever the occasion, we are changed a little, whether for good or for bad. We are made a little different one step at a time. Those minor events not only change the way we think but help us to face new challenges each day.
And God uses them to help us in times of trouble or grief. How often have you faced a problem and remembered something from the past that helped you with it? It happens all the time, and yet it often goes unnoticed. Carol makes these fragments of our life stand out.
Read and enjoy.
FRAGMENTS
Elusive as a forgotten dream are these bittersweet strands of memory.
I manage, too infrequently, to stitch faint recollections to my soul.
Treasured golden moments, like sunlight in a dream, warm me, carry me through life’s darker hours.
They remain a compass for us when the maze is tiring, and the day’s journey long.
God holds back the mind”s door and lets us step into the comfortable joy of a remembered kindness.
We slip into its recall, as into old slippers, with relief.
Truly, we think, God blessed us in that day gone by,
with the gift of laughter, a friend’s smile, a hand to hold, a lifted burden.
Ah, life, you are too fine a gift to fully comprehend.
You are too swift to corner, too fleeting to keep.
These fragments of life are too precious for our words to define.
And so, we hold them up, in praise to You, our Father,
with tears of greatest joy —
—and deepest gratitude.
