THE LAND OF IDOLS
… it is the land of carved images,
And they are insane with their idols. Jeremiah 50:38 NKJV
This is the description of the land in the time of Jeremiah, yet can we not see the similarity of our land today?
Are we a land that has carved images, in a manner of speaking? Do we want our cars and clothing to be seen and admired? Perhaps, you envy the one who has the biggest home, the most money, or whatever it is that draws you.
They are the carved images of today.
They have become our idols.
While in some cultures, there are still physically carved images of false gods, we have substituted things as our idols in our culture today. The verse goes on to say that the people of Jeremiah’s time were” insane with their idols,” and today, it feels we have lost our minds over that which is of no eternal value.
We spend our days in labor to accumulate more and more. Of course, we have to eat and clothe ourselves and pay the rent for a shelter, but we can often live on far less than we do.
My husband and I live in an apartment of two rooms in great joy.
Less is more, for it gives you more to use to help others.
We need not have any idols at all, and sanely go about the living of our lives with faith and purpose.
God has been so good to us all.
He offers us Salvation through Christ. His righteousness is close.
While Things will not last, God’s salvation and righteousness will be forever.
Let us read these words in Isaiah.
“Listen to Me, My people;
And give ear to Me, O My nation:
For law will proceed from Me,
And I will make My justice rest
As a light of the peoples.
5 My righteousness is near,
My salvation has gone forth,
And My arms will judge the peoples;
The coastlands will wait upon Me,
And on My arm they will trust.
6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
And look on the earth beneath.
For the heavens will vanish away like smoke,
The earth will grow old like a garment,
And those who dwell in it will die in like manner;
But My salvation will be forever,
And My righteousness will not be abolished.
7 “Listen to Me, you who know righteousness,
You people in whose heart is My law:
Do not fear the reproach of men,
Nor be afraid of their insults.
8 For the moth will eat them up like a garment,
And the worm will eat them like wool;
But My righteousness will be forever,
And My salvation from generation to generation.”Isaiah 51:4-8 NKJV
Truly, we should not have feared the reproach of men or their insults to us.
We have God on our side.
CHOOSE GOD
What do we do next, you might ask?
Look again at Jeremiah, who tells us to flee from Babylon, the city of sin.
Are you also ready to leave all that held you to your idols, and the place of sin, and flee to save your life?
Don’t chance being cut off from God due to the iniquity of which you become a part.
The Lord will punish those who put things before Him.
Flee from the midst of Babylon,
And every one save his life!
Do not be cut off in her iniquity,
For this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance;
He shall recompense her. Jeremiah 51:6 NKJV
Leave it all…
