45 “Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. 46 And they shall be upon you for a sign and a wonder, and on your descendants forever.

47 “Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. Deuteronomy 28:45-48 NKJV

Wow! He says that the curses that came upon others will come upon them because they had not obeyed God’s Voice. They did not keep His commandments or His statutes.

Furthermore, they didn’t serve God with hearts full of joy and gladness.

No, they served Him, if at all, with that sad face we all use far too often. Perhaps, they were like us in their response too.

You know how we are. We drag our feet, we make all sorts of excuses, or worse, we tell ourselves that God couldn’t POSSIBLY be asking THAT of us.

Yet, we KNOW that He is and that we should be about the doing of it. And we should be doing it joyfully.

Punishment came upon the Israelites.

Can we not learn from their sad mistakes, their tragic choices, and their sinful lifestyles?

We are surrounded by a culture and people who turn from God and serve only themselves.

Like the Israelites, our day will come if we don’t change our ways now.

It seems that neither you nor I should need to be reminded of all that God has done for us throughout our lives.

The air in our lungs, the days of our lives, the forgiveness of our confessed sins when we come to God through Christ’s death on the cross are all His gifts to us.

Christ’s death for us was provided by God. Long before He made this earth, He knew that we would sin and turn away from Him.

His Love Was So Great

His Love was so great that He provided the Ultimate Sacrifice so we could live eternally with Him.

Furthermore, He gave us a life here that could be lived in full fellowship with Him. He knew that if we loved Him, even a fraction of the love He had for us, we would gladly serve Him. Our hearts should be overflowing with joy, gladness, gratitude, and love for our God.

Confess

Go to Him and confess.

Tell Him you want that love and joy for and from Him.

Stay there waiting until you feel Him answer and forgive.

Because, if you are sincere, He will answer.
