Even to your old age, I am He,
And even to gray hairs I will carry you!
I have made, and I will bear;
Even I will carry, and will deliver you.  Isaiah 46:4 NKJV

CERTAINTY

She was in her nineties and frail.

Speech came haltingly.

Each evening, however, without fail,

she would begin her long walk down the dirt road,

turn, and stand patiently gazing out over the farmland.

Seasons changed.

Her routine did not.

One evening we sat together in the companionable silence

that was becoming more and more common,

as my elderly friend found dialogue increasingly challenging.

I glanced out the window at the setting sun, turning the landscape golden

with glorious muted light.

“It looks like a painting,” I mused.

Her eyes lit up and for the first time in weeks, she clearly articulated,

“I walk…I wait….for the sunset. It is worth the wait….”

I thought of our own lives,

as we gain and lose,

celebrate,

age,

and keep on walking

our own path.

If we have received Jesus as our Savior and Lord,

we will not walk that path alone.

Each step will be beside our Lord and Master

and will have joy and meaning.

Despite the difficulties that life often presents us while on earth, Christ leads us to Heaven,

our Eternal Home.

At the end of our lives,

may we face

our final sunset

and await the Son,

knowing,

ah knowing with certainty,

… it is indeed

…. worth the wait.
