You can’t save yourself. Only God can do that. So no matter how strong or self-reliant one believes himself to be, we need God to save us.
You will find two powerful verses that can change your life.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV
SALVATION IS FREE
The first of these two verses is very easy to understand. You can’t save yourself. God alone can save you through His grace.
Salvation is the act of being saved from our sins and is a gift from God.
UNEARNED
You cannot earn salvation by anything you do.
It is from Him, not from our doing. Therefore, we cannot boast or take credit for it. Neither can we try to earn it by our good deeds.
DOING OUT OF OUR LOVE FOR GOD HIMSELF
You should do good deeds out of your love for God and gratitude for His gift through Christ.
Confess your belief in Christ and receive Him as Savior for salvation. (See also Romans 10:9-10.)
REPENTING, CHANGE, JOY AND THANKS
One must repent of his sins and ask God for forgiveness through Christ’s sacrifice. Then, salvation sweeps through your heart, and you are forever changed. Joy enters.
Thanks be to God!!
CREATED TO DO GOOD WORKS
Now to the second verse here. God created us IN Christ to do good works.
Scripture shows us that God prepared us to walk in His ways and do good. You are empty and purposeless without a life spent in service to God and our fellowmen. Receive Christ and serve Him to discover that the void of discontent is gone.
RIGHT MOTIVES
Do good deeds with the right, unselfish motives. All your good deeds might cause others to thank God and realize that any kindness shown to them is because of Him. We want others to see our good works and give glory to God. Jesus, Himself, provides us with this thought in Matthew 5:16.
Lives saved from sin and set free are purposeful and filled with joy.
Talk to God about it right now.
