What is at the top of your life list?
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. Colossians 3:12-14 NKJV
THE LIST
The Scripture relays an important list of virtues that we all should want to have in our hearts as followers of Christ.
Each one stands alone as a vital attribute. As Christ’s believers and followers, God wants us to be clothed with these values. In other words, wrap yourselves in them. Have them as a part of your daily life, a part of your very being.
HE LOVES US
He gives us these ideals to embrace because we are His children who are chosen, holy and dearly beloved.
Because He loves us, He wants what will ultimately make us happiest and give us the most meaningful existence.
God reminds us to hold the qualities of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience because followers of Christ should represent Him.
FORGIVING EACH OTHER
Verse 13 tells us to bear with each other and forgive grievances.
Paul reminds us that we should be forgiving because we have been forgiven by God for our sins.
WE LOVE OTHERS
God tells us through Paul’s writing that we should hold to love above all things as it is the one which holds all together. It is the bond of perfection that holds all believers together in unity. When you are bound in love and show love in all situations, we come to the foundation of Christ’s teachings. Dwelling in Christ’s love and sharing Christ’s love is the bond of perfection indeed.
